Generon Introduces MNPU at Marine Expo

May 2007

Integrated package includes dual feed compressors with nitrogen generator

Houston, Texas May 2007 Generon has long supplied Nitrogen Generator Packages (NPUs) to the marine industry. Generon also frequently supplies the feed air compressors, modifying “standard packages? from compressor manufacturers for seawater cooling and compliance/certification with marine specifications. The final product normally ships to the customer as three packages – two compressors and the Nitrogen Generator. This requires multiple connections when the system is installed on the ship.

Recently Generon began a program to integrate the feed compression and the Nitrogen Generator into a single package – a Marine Nitrogen Production Unit or MNPU. This integration results in a smaller footprint and a simpler installation.

All of the customer electric power connections are in a single cabinet rather than 3 separate cabinets, a 67% reduction. The seawater cooling connections are reduced by 50%. The interconnecting air lines are completely eliminated!

An MNPU 500 model was recently exhibited at the Marine Expo in Istanbul, Turkey. The package included a pair of 130kw 12 Bar compressors and produces 500 Nm3/hr of 95% nitrogen. The package measured 4’ 11? x 12’ 7? x 8’ and weighed 17,200 lbs.

Attending the show for IGS Generon were Marc Straub, V.P. Engineering at the Houston, TX systems plant and Raimund Gester, European Sales Manager. “This is a product we have wanted for several years.? says Herr Gester. “We want to continue to develop this product line with several larger sizes and perhaps a smaller one.? he continues. “It was a great show for us.? says Mr. Straub. “We were able to get feedback from shipyards and ship owners about the new product. The reactions were overwhelmingly positive.?

Shortly after the Marine Expo, Generon received orders for four of the new integrated MNPUs. This is the best kind of positive feedback.

A brochure on the MNPU line is available at www.igs-global.com.

All of the IGS facilities are ISO 9001 Certified.
