New Corporation IGS (Innovative Gas Systems) formed through management buyout of Generon, Italfilo, Mahler and SMC

01/14/02, Malvern, PA - Innovative Gas Systems (IGS)Inc. headquartered in Malvern (USA) has been created through the management-led purchase of the shares of Generon (USA), Italfilo Engineering s.r.l. (Italy), Mahler AGS (Germany) and SMC Asia Gas Systems Co. (China) from the industrial gases group, Messer Griesheim GmbH, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany on October 1, 2001.

Innovative Gas Systems is a Global Technology Company with operational centers in North America, Europe and Asia. Its products are world class with over 75 patents supporting its innovative technologies in nitrogen membranes, nitrogen PSA, oxygen PSA/VPSA, hydrogen SMR and unique knowledge in environmental incinerations.

IGS will provide customers around the world with systems for on-site generation of their industrial gas requirements. Primary markets served include: metallurgy, chemicals (blanketing, inerting, sparging and purging), industrial glass, pulp and paper, ozone production and waste water treatment, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), controlled atmosphere storage and marine transport (of food and produce), oil and gas (offshore and drilling operations), aquaculture, cutting and welding, glass art, medical applications, laser cutting, heat treating and wine sparging.

The four Innovative Gas Systems companies will be known as Generon IGS, Inc., Italfilo Engineering IGS, Mahler IGS, Inc. and SMC IGS Asia Gas Co. Each company will retain its own identity and product/service offerings.

Generon IGS, Inc. designs, engineers and manufactures on-site nitrogen and oxygen generating units for industrial-purity nitrogen and low-flow oxygen. Italfilo Engineering IGS s.r.l. specializes in engineering and manufacturing units that produce low-flow, high-purity nitrogen (its N-series provide flow rates up to 350 Nm3/h or 13,300 scfh) for industries such as gold art, laser cutting, heat treating, wine sparging and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) in the food industry. Italfilo's oxygen generating units (T-series) are well suited for the chemical industry, ozone production and waste water treatment applications where less than 5 MTPD of oxygen is required as well as aquaculture, cutting and welding, glass art, soldering and medical applications.

SMC IGS Asia Gas Systems focuses on manufacturing both low- and high-flow systems covering all purity ranges for oxygen and nitrogen. Based in Chengdu, Sichuan/China, SMC offers full sales and service support for Generon IGS, Mahler IGS and Italfilo IGS throughout the Far East. Established in 1995, SMC has been a leading supplier of PSA and membrane nitrogen and PSA/VPSA oxygen generation systems in China and is exporting non-cryo gas systems to the other countries in East and Southeast Asia. The company has the ability to design, engineer and manufacture to customer's specific requirements and has successfully placed systems in the chemical, oil and gas, food, metals and electronics industries.
