Generon IGS Develops a membrane based SF6 Reclamation System
HOUSTON - July 01, 2011 -
Generon IGS, an affiliate of Innovative Gas Systems, has developed a membrane based SF6, sodium hexafluoride, reclamation process that can recycle over 90% of low purity SF6 into a highly concentrated product.
SF6 is used around the world as a dielectric medium for high-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment. Additionally, it is used for the filling of insulated windows and for the casting of magnesium. The gas is expensive and is also a powerful green house gas (20,000 times more potent than CO2). Generon® is offering systems that will cut SF6 emissions by >90% while having a projected payback time of less than a year for most applications.
Generon® has successfully demonstrated its technology in actual field tests for a domestic transformer manufacturer the ability to concentrate a pressurized 3% SF6 stream to over 50%. The SF6 yields achieved were in excess of 90%.
Generon® membranes allow SF6 to be retained selectively at or near feed pressure while permeating out the unwanted air. Retaining the concentrated SF6 at pressure allows for convenient storage or reuse of the gas.
Over the years, we at Generon IGS, have always strived to tailor our products to our customer needs. This new application takes full advantage of our membrane products and expertise and maximizes value to our customers.
